Tanya Carries On

Posted Mar 04, 2011

In January Tanya Holt, the booking manager of the Metropolitan Room, lost her home in a fire. Tanya and her family are ok, but they lost everything they own and it will take months to rebuild their home. Undefeated, Tanya will join Susan Winter, Julie Reyburn and Jackie Fornatale in a benefit for Cabaret Cares on March 20 at the Laurie Beechman Theater. Tracy Stark is music director.

Karen Oberlin Scores Big at Nightlife Awards

Posted Feb 02, 2011

In performances at Feinstein's, the Oak Room at the Algonquin, the Colony in Palm Beach, Karen wowed audiences and reviewers alike with her lush tones, intimate whispers, and gentle humor, making listeners feel that she was singing to them alone. These qualities, these performances, gathered the attention of critics and gained Karen the 2011 Nightlife award for Outstanding Jazz Vocalist.

Congratulations to Karen and her jazz partners, the outstanding pianists Tedd Firth and Jon Weber and star bassist Sean Smith.

Miranda Celebrates Two Milestones

Posted Feb 02, 2011

Miranda Music CEO Kitty Skrobela celebrated her 70th birthday and Miranda's 15th year in business in a gala performance at New York's Metropolitan Room. Miranda artists Marcus Simeone, Tracy Stark, Kathleen France and Sean Harkness presented songs from their past and future CDs and other favorites.

Surprise guest Kitty Skrobela represented artists who are gone by singing John Wallowitch's song "This Moment," the last song on Miranda's first CD, Berri Blair's Blame It on my Youth. Regrettably, other Miranda artists were not able to be present - the good news is that this is a good excuse for another show. Stay tuned for news.

Kathleen France's long-awaited CD The Book of Love, recorded live at the Metropolitan Room, rocks with the band Tracy Stark, Skip Ward, Dave Silliman and Sean Harkness. This view of the hopes, the joys, the sorrows and the spite of romance is now being mastered and will be launched in a gala release in late spring. Meanwhile, relax, chill out and sip a mai tai with Kathleen's show Vacation at Don't Tell Mama.
